During the course of this brief life, we are asked many questions.  But, the single most important question that you will ever be asked is this: “If you were to die today, do you know 100% for sure that you would go to Heaven?”.  It is a question that you should answer today because you do not know if you will have tomorrow.  James 4:14 tell us, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”  If you do not know if you are on your way to Heaven, please continue reading so that you can know the only way that you can be 100% for sure.

The Bible tells us in I John 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…” The simple truth is, God wants you to know that you are going to Heaven, 100% for sure!  There is only one way for you to know that you will spend eternity in Heaven, and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ.  The following is a simple explanation of God’s plan of salvation:

1. Recognize your lost condition.

The first step in knowing for sure that we are going to go to Heaven is that we must admit we are lost in sin. Romans 5:12 teaches us that since Adam and Eve, the first man and woman on earth, a sin nature has been present in all people.

Our sin creates a gulf between us and eternal life with God.

Our sin creates a gulf between us and eternal life with God.

Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Sin is any act contrary to God’s laws and commandments.  The sins that I have committed separate me from God.

2. Realize God’s punishment for your sin.

With sin there always comes a punishment.  A parent has a punishment for a child who disobeys.  A police officer issues a ticket for those who break the law.  A judge passes a sentence against someone found guilty of a crime.  And, God also has a punishment for sin.

Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  The “wage” or payment for our sin is spiritual death and eternal separation from God.

Man and religion have tried to create their own “way” to God, but there is only ONE way.  John 14:6 says, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” In Ephesians 2:8–9 the Bible says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Our good works cannot outweigh our bad deeds.  Man cannot work his way to Heaven, nor can he earn his way.  Salvation and eternal life in Heaven are gifts that God bought and paid for when He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross.

3. Believe Christ died for you.

Through His death on the cross, Jesus Christ paid for our sins and delivers to us the way to eternal life in Heaven.

Through His death on the cross, Jesus Christ paid for our sins and delivers to us the way to eternal life in Heaven.

Even though we were lost and separated from God, He loved us.  And, because He is love, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross and raised Him from the dead three days later.

John 3:16 explains “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, He became the payment for our sin.

Now, we do not have to pay for our sin ourselves. By His grace, salvation is provided. In Romans 5:8, the Bible says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” I did not have to be perfect for God to love me.  He loved me “while I was yet a sinner”.

4. Trust Christ alone as your Saviour.

In order to have a relationship with God and an eternal home in Heaven, we must stop trusting in ourselves, our works, our religion and place our full trust in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of our sin and eternal life.

In Roman 10:13 the Bible says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” That is a promise directly from God that if you will pray to Him, confess that you are a sinner, ask Him to forgive your sins, and trust Him alone to be your Saviour; He promises to save you and give you the free gift of eternal life. You can make that decision today by praying from your heart, something like this:

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner.  Please forgive me for my sin.  Jesus, come into my heart and save my soul from Hell.  I am trusting you, and you alone to take me to Heaven when I die.  Thank you for saving me, Jesus.”
—Amen
